Biography
For artist and curator Nasir Nasrallah, making art is about experimenting with and synthesising materials, be they physical objects, ideas or theorems. His work is a highly personal response to his environment and the people and places he encounters. He finds particular inspiration in the physical objects he collects, such as toys and small consumer items, which he feels drawn to use in his work.
His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah (2011) and Sharjah Art Museum (2009). His work has also been shown in group exhibitions inside and outside the UAE, including Sharjah Biennial 11 (2013); Cairo Biennial (2006) and annual exhibitions of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah (2005–present). In 2012, he participated in the A.i.R (Artist in Residence) programme, a collaboration between Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Tashkeel and the Delfina Foundation, and he won first prize at the 30th Annual Exhibition, Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah.
Nasrallah was the curator of Stories Yet to Be Told, 32nd Annual Exhibition, Emirates Fine Arts Society, Sharjah (2014) and Questions, 4th Sharjah Children’s Biennial (2014). He has held the position of Vice President, Emirates Fine Arts Society for six years (2006–2012), and he is currently Director of the Education Programme at Sharjah Art Foundation and Ambassador for the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY).
